Dr.
Plotnick and the staff at Manhattan Cat Specialists strive to
provide the highest quality medical care and service to the
discriminating urban cat owner.
As
recently as fifteen years ago, cats received very little medical
consideration. Veterinary
care consisted mainly of vaccination, neutering, and spaying, and
cats were generally considered less worthy or deserving of
sophisticated medical services. Over the last fifteen years feline
medicine and surgery have undergone a significant transformation.
Feline medicine and surgery are now approaching the same
level of sophistication as that seen in human medicine.
Manhattan Cat Specialists’ goal is to continue to advance
the cause of feline medicine.
Our job is to provide the best possible advice regarding
the health and well-being of our feline patients, and to provide
exceptional care while maintaining, at all times, good business
practices, a sound professionalism in our manner when dealing with
clients, and the highest standards of veterinary medicine.

A
History of Manhattan Cat Specialists, Inc.
Manhattan
Cat Specialists is a full-service, feline-exclusive veterinary
facility located on the Upper West Side of New York City. It was
founded by Dr. Arnold Plotnick, a board certified small animal
internist and feline specialist.
Dr. Plotnick, while employed as Vice President of the
ASPCA, conceived of the idea opening a feline-exclusive veterinary
facility in late 2001, shortly after the attack on the World Trade
Center. With
businesses reeling from the consequences of the attack and New
York City’s economy struggling in the aftermath, Dr. Plotnick
realized that there was no better time to pursue his dream of
owning his own feline specialty hospital. In forming Manhattan Cat
Specialists, Dr. Plotnick felt that he could help revitalize the
city’s economy and create new jobs, albeit on a relatively small
scale. With the
financial backing of JP Morgan Chase, a determined and relentless
search for an appropriate location finally yielded an ideal site,
at 230 West 76th Street, just west of Broadway.
Armed with blueprints, ideas, advice, and support from
friends, family, and colleagues, construction and renovations
began in October of 2002. Three months later, on January 2nd,
2003, Manhattan Cat Specialists opened its doors to the public.
Manhattan
Cat Specialists offers
the highest quality feline health care to the discriminating urban
cat owner, in a warm and professional environment.
Health care services are individually tailored to suit the
needs of both cat and client.
Manhattan
Cat Specialists invests
in its employees, maintaining a work environment that is relaxed,
low-stress, and welcoming. Employees
are actively encouraged to make meaningful contributions to the
organization and to the community.
Special
cats deserve special care. Expert
feline healthcare is provided by Dr. Arnold Plotnick, one of only
67 board-certified feline specialists in the United States.

Office
visits are by appointment. We
ask that your cat be confined to a carrier to avoid any mishaps.
Cats feel more secure and are safer when restricted to a
carrier. You may
arrange your appointment by calling us at 212-721-CATS (2287), or
via e-mail at mcs@manhattancats.com.

Manhattan
Cat Specialists collaborates with a select group of adoption
agencies so that we may offer, on occasion, kittens or cats for
adoption. We test all
kittens and cats for the feline leukemia virus and the feline
immunodeficiency virus. All kittens are then vaccinated and de-wormed appropriately
before being placed with loving and caring owners (many of whom
happen to be our own clientele).
Clients interested in adopting must fill out an adoption
application and, if selected, they need to sign an adoption
contract. The
adoption fee includes all physical examinations, vaccinations,
fecal examinations, nail trims, and de-wormings required in their
first six months of life, as well as spaying and/or neutering.
