Shiatsu
This
is Shiatsu, a 15 year old domestic
longhaired mackerel tabby who officially
became the newest member of Manhattan Cat
Specialists’ family.
After Ethel
died in September of 2004, our hospital
served as a temporary home to Petey, a big
cuddly teddy-bear of a cat. But being
a youngster (only 9 months), we felt that
Petey deserved a real home with a loving
family, so we adopted him out to a wonderful
client.
A few months later, a client informed us
that he could no longer take proper care of
a kitten that he had adopted from us several
months earlier, and we found ourselves
looking after Chester, an adorable,
good-natured, fun-loving cat who constantly
amused us with his antics. Although we
loved having him reside here, at 11 months
of age we again felt that he deserved
another shot at a real home, with a family
and perhaps a playmate. When a
special, top-notch client of ours inquired
about adopting another cat after losing her
sweet cat to cancer, we realized that
Chester would be the perfect cat for her.
Chester and Petey’s new owners completely
adore them, and we feel great that we’ve
placed these cats in such loving homes.
But we still didn’t have a hospital cat of
our very own.
In September,
almost a year to the day after Ethel passed
away, a client of ours found herself in the
difficult position of no longer being able
to care for her cat, Shiatsu. As a
regular patient of ours, Shiatsu had become
one of our favorites, and we looked forward
to the times when she’d board with us over
the holidays. When Shiatsu’s owner
tearfully told us that she couldn’t care for
Shiatsu anymore, we realized that we had
just found the perfect hospital cat.
The fact that she looked like a long-haired
version of Ethel certainly didn’t hurt.
Shiatsu is a real sweetie. As an
elderly cat, she spends most of her time
sleeping in her fuzzy bed, but she never
minds being awakened if it means an
opportunity to be cuddled and stroked.
Be sure to ask about her next time you come
to visit the hospital.
