Danny
We said our final good bye to our beloved Danny on November
13, 2010 and it was truly the saddest and most heartbreaking
moment of our lives.
Danny was so special and lucky in so many ways. We adopted
him as an adult cat from the Manhattan AC&C. The shelter
told us he was 6 years old but when we brought him to Dr.
Plotnick for his first checkup we were pretty sure he was
older. We also found out he had diabetes which the shelter
failed to inform us. With a choice of giving him back to the
shelter (and likely a sad ending for him), or keeping him
and taking care of him with insulin for the rest of his
life, the choice was easy. We fell in love with him the
moment we laid eyes on him. There was no way he was going
back. Danny was destined for our home. He started at 9lbs
and when we got him healthy he got to a much as 18lbs! He
went everywhere with us because we needed to take care of
him constantly. Through the years we were certain Danny knew
how much extra work we needed to do with him and we know he
appreciated it and loved us for it. Seeing him get strong
and healthy despite his ailments gave us so much more
satisfaction and love for him than we ever thought possible.
Even though he was an indoor city cat he loved to come up to
our lake house in Vermont and sit in the sun on the
screened-in porch and take in the peace of the country. He
sat at the table with us, he never met a food he didn't
like, and he played with his beloved Fishy his entire life
from the day we took him home. Danny slept on our pillows
with us every night and he loved the holidays. He sat under
the Christmas tree all the time or curled up on our big
brown chair that we draped with his Christmas blanket. Over
the years as he got older he also developed a thyroid
condition, low grade lymphoma, two hypoglycemic episodes and
every time with a lot of help from Dr. Plotnick and that
staff at MCS, he came through, took his medicine and bounced
back. In the end he developed a squamous cell carcinoma that
he couldn't beat. But he had 7 great years with us so
whether he was 8 or 10 years old when we got him he lived a
great long life, longer than he would have likely had if
karma didn't bring him and us together. We were blessed to
have such a wonderful companion all these years. He was our
Danny Man, our Fuzzman, and truly our first child.
We miss you Danny Boy every day. Not an hour goes by where
we don't think about you. You will never be replaced and we
carry our memories of you in the center of our hearts. We
will miss you forever.
