Shadow
Large and lumbering Shadow was an unlikely successor for the
graceful Max. Shadow, an incredibly sweet and gentle
beast, whose owner had died, was taken in by MCS. AKA "The
Guardian of the Food Storage," Shadow charmed the whole
staff.
I fostered him, and fell in love. He tickled me with
his repertoire of sounds; grunts, purrs, quacks, snores, and
meows, and breaking wind (so I was told).. "A whole
barnyard" exclaimed my husband. Shadow soothed me with
his even and gentle temperament. He was my "blood
pressure cat."
At first we called him "Bear," then "Mitzvah," then
"Multiple Mitzvot." He brought me great joy, he now
had a home of his own, and MCS felt that his owner would
have been happy to know that he had a special place and
people who loved him. I soon accepted him as "Shadow"
We spent almost a year together. He was in good health
until nearly the end.
The night before my vacation, he had breathing problems.
MCS was closed, so I rushed him to the emergency hospital.
He was diagnosed with
cardiomyopathy. He recovered from an episode of
heart failure and was put on a regimen of meds.
I knew that time together could be short, or not. He
was a gift.
His symptoms returned with more severity and not much hope
for a good future. I think I made the right choice for
Shadow. Hard as it was to do... such a good cat
deserved a good death. He was put to sleep with his
MCS family nearby.
Now I can celebrate his life. I would do it all over
again.. Many thanks to all at MCS who shared my love of this
incredible creature, and allowed me the privilege of caring
for him.
