“Simba” Bolin
1995-2010
My family
had just moved cross country and I was starting my Freshman
year in High School. To ease the transition my Dad brought
home an adorable and feisty half-Siamese kitten who needed a
home. We lived in the country but Simba was clearly a city
cat as he hardly ever hunted mice or climbed trees. He
eventually lived up to his name; as a kitten he survived
being run over by a car and when older he was even known to
chase off dogs twice his size. To me he had
the heart of a lion.
Unfortunately, even the heart of a lion can fail and Simba
came to the end of his time with me after having trouble
breathing with fluid around his lungs and abdomen due to
suspected heart failure or cancer. His passing seemed very
sudden and hard to grasp as he had been happy and healthy
playing continuously and chasing me around the apartment
until about the last 1 year of his 15 years.
Simba saw
me through my high school and college years and even made
the journey with me from Dallas to Manhattan for my
Bachelors Degree. He would sit on my lap for hours while on
the computer writing thesis, was there to greet me every
time I came home, peeking his head in the kitchen to see
what's for dinner and was even my alarm clock as me was
always at my side in the mornings to make sure
I was awake when he was hungry!
Simba, you
were the best companion. You will forever be loved,
remembered & greatly missed.
